Books aren't being banned — they're just not being ordered. When Texas passed SB 13, the K-12 book market didn't just slow down. It froze. Publishers stopped getting orders. Librarians stopped buying new titles. Districts paralyzed by compliance uncertainty chose the safest option: do nothing.
The result? A generation of students with shrinking libraries, fewer choices, and less access to the stories that shape who they become. Not because anyone wanted that outcome — but because the compliance burden made action feel impossible.
